First Friday

Okay friends, you get the first peak again...

I think she is enjoying her Mom's lap. Looks like a smiler.
She's still a little shy for her own blog just yet.

We're still deciding on a name, but I think it will be a variation of Quill (Quilly or Quillian). I was joking about naming a new kitty Sequel and then I thought of Quill. Sorta fitting for a writer's cat. She loves the keyboard and adding in her two cents too.

She is so tiny. She was rescued at about five weeks from her stray Momma with a brother and sister. The very nice woman who rescued her had already fallen in love with her. She said she was the bravest of the kittens and the natural ringleader. She is probably about six and a half weeks now, we scooped her up on Tuesday night. Still a little skittish around hubby but she was around me too at first.

I had gotten to a place where I thought my grieving was almost done. Mother's Day was awful, getting Fin's ashes back was horrible, but I thought I was doing okay. I think I was just stalling fully grieving over my girl with my kitten frenzy. Suddenly I had a kitten, but I was struck with the sadness I had been holding back, when I realized no other baby would be my Finny. Not that I will love a new kitty less, but she isn't Fin and that made me sad in a way I had tried to avoid.

The good news is that it's hard to be sad for long when you have a bouncing kitten ready to make you laugh. Bouncing kitten is good healing.

  1. She's a precious little one, Meg, and I hope she helps ease your sadness. As I'm so fond of posting in comments, I had read once, long ago, that the holes in our hearts are to let the Light shine through.

BTW, when does she get to start blogging? :-)

  7. We thought Quill is such an adorable name, especially considering your passion with words.

Like everyone we hope that Q will help quiet the raging grief storm within. Nothing can ever replace Finny, but we know she would not want you to be sad, which we understand is much easier said than done.

Kittens are such pure joy though, so we know she will keep a smile on your face, even when you don't feel like it.

    So happy for you.

  9. She is precious! When we lost our Maggie we were devastated. When we adopted Cory and Ellie after she passed away, they didn't replace Maggie, but they sure eased the pain. All my furry family looks forward to getting to know this little bundle of joy. I see a future CatOlympics gold medal in her future.

  12. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! She is just the cutest thing ever. Ok, all our kitties are as kittens...but she really is special. I know how your heart still aches for Finny. She's always going to be right there in your heart. This new little bundle will be wonderful therapy.
...ok,so she's shy now...but you must tell, will there be a blog in her future?

  13. OMG she is adorable!!! What a face!

Delilah found me 6 days after I lost my beloved Muddy, and while it was too early and still so raw for me, she was a welcome distraction from my grief. She was so different from Muddy and a nice little furball to snuggle with when I felt sad. Quill looks like she's on a mission to make you smile right along with her!

  19. I was devastated when we lost Whiskers to the pet food recall. While Scylla & Charybdis didn't take the grief away they kept me so busy (bottle feeding) that I didn't have time to mope and well it's just kinda hard to be sad with a kitten in the house. Fin knows you love and miss her, but I bet she is glad you have someone to lift your spirits and I have no doubt when the kitten is a wee bit bigger Fin will meow in her ear to put cat spit in your water. ~Alasandra
